What do you do with fish in Southern Mudding?

Caught fish go into your inventory and can be held as items. Public Southern Mudding fishing videos show each catch displaying a fish species and a rarity percentage. They do not show a completed sell, cooking, or cash-reward interaction.

So the strongest current answer is: fish have a clear collection, rarity-hunting, inventory, and roleplay use. A dependable public source does not yet establish a fish buyer or recipe system.

Where to get a fishing rod

Two public gameplay videos travel to a fishing or fish shop for rods. One describes the shop as being near the trailer store. The exact road layout can move after an update, so use the current map and nearby storefront labels rather than relying on one old turn-by-turn route.

Inside the shop, the video shows rod items labeled Fishing Rod. If multiple rods appear visually different but share the same label, read any current price or stats in your server before assuming one has a hidden bonus.

How to catch a fish

  1. Equip the Fishing Rod from your inventory.
  2. Stand at the edge of a lake, river, coast, dock, or boat where the cast reaches open water.
  3. Use the rod’s on-screen action to cast.
  4. Wait without repeatedly recasting.
  5. Watch the float and surrounding water. The videos use bubbling as the visible bite cue.
  6. Use the rod action again to hook or reel in the fish.
  7. Read the catch card, then open inventory to see the fish item.

How fish rarity works

The catch display in public gameplay includes both a species and a percentage. The percentage behaves like a rarity indicator: lower-looking odds are presented as more unusual catches. The videos do not provide an official drop-rate table, so the number should be read exactly as the game displays it rather than converted into an invented tier.

For a useful collection log, record:

FieldExample of what to save
SpeciesThe exact catch name on screen
RarityThe displayed percentage
LocationLake, coast, dock, or other spot
RodThe exact item label used
DateUseful because Friday updates can change systems

Ten or more catches at the same place provide better evidence than one lucky catch. If you compare locations, keep the rod and session conditions the same.

Can you sell fish?

The fishing videos actively look for a use and do not demonstrate one. One creator asks whether the fish can be sold and concludes they do not think so; another considers storage or roleplay uses. That is community observation, not a permanent developer promise.

Until an in-game shop prompt or official update text shows a transaction:

  • do not promise cash values for fish;
  • do not invent a hidden fish buyer;
  • do not describe refrigerator storage as a confirmed mechanic;
  • keep rare catches if collection matters to you;
  • re-check the fishing shop after a Friday update.

Fishing troubleshooting

Nothing bites

Make sure the line landed in water and wait for the bubbling cue. Recasting too quickly can restart the wait. Move a short distance if the line clips a dock, shore, or vehicle.

I saw bubbles but caught nothing

Use the action when the bubble cue appears rather than holding it continuously. Latency can change the timing, so try a current, lower-latency server if the same input repeatedly fails.

The fish is missing

Check inventory after the catch card disappears. If the item is still missing, record the species and server state before resetting; a rejoin may refresh inventory display, but it can also remove evidence of what happened.

I cannot find the shop

Look for the current fishing or fish-shop label near the trailer-store area shown in gameplay. Storefront locations can change, so prioritize live map labels over a screenshot from an older update.
